We built this tool because we got tired of doing the math wrong.
A few years ago, one of our team members was working on a backyard patio project. He measured everything, performed the calculations by hand, and ordered what he thought was the correct amount of concrete. He was short by almost half a yard. The ready-mix truck had already left. The concrete was setting. It was a mess – literally.
That experience taught us something important. Concrete calculations may seem simple until they become complex. A small mistake in your measurements or your math can cost you hundreds of dollars, waste an entire day, and leave you with a project that looks nothing like what you planned.
So we built the Concrete Yard Calculator – a free, straightforward tool that does the hard work for you.
Who We Are
We are a small team of builders, contractors, and web developers based in the United States. Between us, we have decades of hands-on experience pouring concrete for driveways, patios, garage floors, footings, and everything in between.
We are not a big corporation. We do not have investors or a fancy office. We are just people who have worked with concrete, understand how frustrating the planning process can be, and wanted to create something genuinely useful for other people going through the same thing.
What We Built and Why
Our calculator handles four of the most common concrete project types:
Slabs – for patios, walkways, garage floors, and general flat pours
Footings – for foundations, retaining walls, and structural bases
Columns – for posts, piers, and cylindrical pours
Steps – for staircases, stoops, and entry ways
For each project type, our tool calculates cubic yards, cubic feet, cubic meters, the number of bags you need in 40lb, 60lb, and 80lb sizes, and an estimated cost based on the price per yard in your area.
We also built in a wastage factor because, in our experience, every single concrete project needs a little extra. The ground is never perfectly level. Forms are never perfectly square. Things spill. Weather changes. Ordering exactly what the math says is a reliable way to run short.
We want you to finish your project the right way — with a little concrete left over, not scrambling to call for a second delivery.
Our Promise to You
Everything on this site is free. There are no subscriptions, no paywalls, no sign-ups required. We show advertising to keep the site running, but we will never put a calculator feature behind a paywall.
We also update our cost estimates regularly to reflect real ready-mix concrete prices across the United States. The numbers you see are based on actual current market data, not outdated figures from years ago.
And if something is wrong – if a calculation seems off, if the tool breaks, if you notice an error anywhere — we genuinely want to know. This site exists to help people, and we take that seriously.
A Note on Professional Advice
Our calculator gives you accurate estimates based on the dimensions you enter. But concrete work, especially for structural projects like footings and foundations, involves factors that go beyond simple volume calculations.
Soil conditions, load requirements, local building codes, rebar specifications, and mix design all play a role in a safe, long-lasting result. For any structural project, please consult a licensed contractor or structural engineer in your area.
We are a tool, not a replacement for professional judgment.
